The B9176 across Easter Ross is a long steady climb and a short steep descent to the A836 which was pretty quiet, some logging trucks though. The A836 north of Bonar Bridge repeats the up and down process. Lairg has shops and a café, these are the last ones you will see for 50 miles, make use of them! The A836 is desolate and single track and mostly deserted, still occasional logging trucks though. It ascends steadily and then descends rapidly to Altnaharra. At Altnaharra take the B873 alongside Loch Naver and then along the River Naver valley. We saw virtually no vehicles on this road. It starts to get undulating a few miles before Bettyhill. There is a short steep climb up into Bettyhill itself.

Camping at Craigdhu Caravan Site. Facilities are very antiquated and pretty grim, shower was OK. Sea views from the site, very exposed if windy though. There is a shop just up the hill from the site, there are also places to eat in the village if required, we cooked. Note that there is a small campsite in Melvich if you wanted to go about 15 miles further.
