Pretty easy on the A828 which is very quiet. One small climb near Appin. The A82 is much busier but not too bad when we were there, busiest road for a long time though. At Fort William we took the Caledonian Canal towpath to Gairlochy, pretty decent surface and fast for cycling. There is no teashop at Gairlochy despite leaflets saying otherwise. The route northwest of Loch Lochy uses a minor road and then a forest track. It rejoins a minor road before Laggan. The track is stony and rough and has a few short steep sections, we were pushing our luck a bit cycling this on fullen laden tourers. The A82 is probably a better option despite the traffic. There is a shop before Invergarry. At Bridge of Oich we used the towpath again into Fort Augustus, good solid surface which offers an easy traffic-free cycling alternative.

Camping at Stravaigers Lodge signposted along the B862, facilities were excellent although in portacabins. They are building permanent facilities ready for 2010. Fort Augustus has plenty of shops and places to eat.
