Watec-120N
Astro Gallery > Astronomy > EquipmentThis is the video camera I used to use to capture deep sky images. It is now mainly used as an autoguider for the images you can find in this gallery. It's shown with a standard 1.25" nose piece which fits into the telescope focuser. Also the Baader UV/IR blocking filter used to increase contrast. The camera is B&W and rated 0.00002 lux and can take exposures up to 10.24s by merging 256 1/25s frames internally. It has a sensing area of 752x582 pixels but as it only outputs in composite it has to go through a video capture device on the PC at either 720x576 or 640x480.

You misleadingly state….......
“watec 120n is the video camera used to capture nearly all of the deep sky images you can find in this gallery”
This is not the case, all of the images were captured with an ATIK CCD camera, the watec camera was simply used for guiding! - a webcam could do the same!
It is simply not possible to get images of this quality with the watec camera.

Yes, I have amended the photo description. I used to use it for imaging but not it is mainly used as a guider. Sorry for confusion, I hadn’t remembered that I had said this on this photo!
